Classroom Rosters
We will begin creating classroom rosters for the 2026–2027 school year in early May. If your family is moving, please contact Mrs. Christina Medico at cmmedico@henrico.k12.va.us as soon as possible. We also offer families the opportunity to share a short paragraph about your child’s learning style and the type of teaching environment that helps them thrive. These insights are incredibly valuable as we thoughtfully build balanced classrooms. Please submit this information directly to Mrs. Christina by May 1. While we cannot guarantee specific requests, we truly value your input and do our very best to support every child.
Kindergarten Registration - CLICK HERE
We currently have over 75 incoming kindergarten students registered, but we are still expecting about 20 more students from our community. If you know a rising kindergartener, please encourage families to register now rather than waiting until the summer.
If you already have a child at Greenwood, it is especially important to register your incoming kindergartener this week. Early enrollment helps us secure the appropriate number of teachers and keep class sizes manageable. Delaying registration could lead to larger class sizes, and we want to provide the best possible learning environment for every student. This is your week—let’s get our future Gators registered!
Monday, April 20 – Head of House, Spirit Captain, and President of Advisory Application Released
We are looking for student leaders in 3rd and 4th grade who are ready to make a positive impact on our school community. If your child is interested in multiple positions, they will need to complete a separate application for each role.
Student leaders are expected to lead by example in the classroom, consistently meet expectations during House Achievement, and demonstrate respect, responsibility, and pride in all areas of the school. They should be willing to speak in front of others, collaborate with peers, and step outside of their comfort zone to grow as leaders. It is also important that families understand the level of commitment, as these roles come with responsibilities both during and outside of the school day.
Monday, April 20 – Library Appreciation Day
Help us celebrate Mrs. Coward and Mrs. Hobbs by showing our appreciation for the heart they bring to our library each day. You can donate a book to be shared with students, create a bookmark, or bring a small gift of appreciation.
Tuesday, April 21 – School Closed
Wednesday, April 22 – Administrative Professionals Day (Mrs. Jae & Mrs. Christina)
Mrs. Jae and Mrs. Christina are the heartbeat of our front office and help keep Greenwood running smoothly each day. Let’s make them feel celebrated by bringing in flowers, Mardi Gras beads, or a small gift of appreciation.
Wednesday, April 22 - PTA Spirit Night

Thursday, April 23 – 5th Grade IRW SOL
Good luck to our 5th graders as they showcase their growth and progress in writing and English. Please make sure students get plenty of rest the night before and start their day with a healthy breakfast.
Thursday, April 23 – Teach America to Save with Fulton Bank
Our 4th graders will participate in a lesson led by Fulton Bank focused on banking, saving, budgeting, financial responsibility, goal setting, and making smart financial decisions. We believe it is important to expose students to real-world skills at an early age so they can build strong habits and make informed choices for their future. Experiences like this help connect classroom learning to life beyond school. A special thank you to Fulton Bank for their continued partnership and for being the very first sponsor of our House System seven years ago. Your support continues to make a lasting impact on our students.
Friday, April 24 – Character Trait Award Ceremony – Trustworthy
We look forward to celebrating our students who consistently demonstrate the character trait of being trustworthy. These are our truth-tellers, students who do the right thing even when no one is watching, and individuals who others can depend on. The ceremony begins promptly at 7:25 AM—please allow extra time for parking. We are striving for 100% parent participation at these special celebrations.
Friday, April 24 - Gator Gala – Bloom & Groove - CLICK HERE
Reminder: this is not a drop-off event for K–4 students, and all students must have a ticket to attend. Cell phones are not permitted, and all school rules apply throughout the event.
Dress to impress and get ready for a fun-filled evening with friends, music, and celebration! Food trucks will be available for dinner, and this exciting night is proudly sponsored and hosted by our PTA. It’s going to be a memorable night for our Gator community!
Tuesday, April 28 - Reading SOL Part 1: 2nd - 5th Grade
Thank you, families, for ensuring your child gets plenty of sleep and a healthy breakfast before testing. These assessments contribute to our school’s accreditation and ranking, and more importantly, provide students with an opportunity to showcase their growth, academic progress, problem-solving skills, and perseverance throughout the year.
Tuesday, April 28 - School of Pop After School Practice
Thank you for sending a note to your child’s teacher regarding dismissal to the gym for practice. With a large number of students involved in chorus, stage crew, and acting, consistent attendance at rehearsals is essential to a successful performance.

Let’s finish strong! Our Gators are ready to shine and show what they know!
Friday, May 1 - Shine Your Light Ceremony
We look forward to celebrating students who consistently shine their light and make Greenwood a better place each day through their actions and leadership. Your presence helps make this recognition even more meaningful. As a reminder, award recipients should report to the gym by 7:20 AM.
Friday, May 1 - Spilling the Tea @ 9 AM
We look forward to another great virtual meeting with our community. During this meeting, we will share the results from our recent safety audit, provide updates on schoolwide academic progress, review our end-of-year goals, share staffing updates for next year, and highlight ways we are continuing to strengthen our school culture and climate. We will also take time to answer parent questions and provide clarity around important decisions as we head into the final stretch of the school year.
We will also discuss what instruction looks like this last month as we do not take our foot off the gas. In addition, we will review upcoming end-of-year celebrations including graduation times and locations, Field Day, House Cup, the 5th grade party, end-of-year pep rally, 5th grade senior clap out, and more.
Friday, May 1 - School Lunch Hero Day
We are encouraging our Gators to wear their superhero outfits to show our cafeteria team that they are truly our everyday heroes. Our cafeteria staff works tirelessly to provide meals, build relationships, and create a welcoming environment for every student each day. This is a great opportunity for our students to show appreciation, practice gratitude, and recognize the important role every adult plays in making Greenwood a special place.
