Happy November!  We have officially completed the first marking period of the 2021-22 school year. We have established routines and relationships, and our students are actively engaged  in learning. Thank you for your support, enthusiasm, and continued partnership.

We have a lot going on this month. A paper calendar will be sent home with your child.  Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Kirk Eggleston, Principal

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for the week of Nov. 1-5.  We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to discuss your child’s strengths and set goals together as partners with your classroom teacher.

Veterans Day Family Project

Veteran’s Day is November 11th. This year we will honor our veterans in two special ways.

  1. Our second graders will be recording performances to share with you virtually.
  2. We will develop a Gayton Family Veterans slide deck to share with you. We are asking each family to identify a family member or friend/neighbor who is a veteran or currently serving in the military.  As a family project, we would like you to design ONE slide that includes the following:
  • Photo of the veteran
  • Name of the veteran
  • Name of the student who is honoring him/her and relationship (eg. sister of Dr. Eggleston).
  • Branch of the military
  • Years of service
  • Wars/conflicts served
  • Any special info you want to include

This will be a great way to honor veterans of our individual families and our collective Gayton family!  It will also be a meaningful student/family project to complete during student holidays, November 2 and 4. Please see this attachment for directions. Veteran’s Day School Wide Project.pdf

Wellness Wednesdays begin Nov. 17

The county is asking us to begin a modified Wellness Wednesday this month. This will NOT be a shortened day but an opportunity for teachers to work more directly with students socially/emotionally and academically during the school day. Gayton’s day will be unique to our own school needs; we will be developing what our schedule looks like and what priorities we will pursue during this more flexible time each week. We will keep you informed soon about what our day will look like. Our goal is to be innovative and supportive of student needs.

Principal’s Coffee (Gifted Identification Process), Nov. 18

Please join us on Thursday, November 18 at 6:30 PM for a virtual meeting with our Gifted Identification Coordinator (Ms. Fisher) and Elementary Gifted Resource Teacher (Mrs. Smallwood). This will be a virtual Parent/Guardian Gifted Referral Information Session for families who would like to refer their child or learn more about the gifted identification process. This meeting will include a division video that provides a timeline and key points for parent / guardian(s) about the gifted identification process. Following the video, parent/guardian(s) will have an opportunity to meet the school’s Gifted Identification Coordinator and Elementary Gifted Resource Teacher and ask questions about the gifted identification process. We will forward the link the week of the meeting. You may initiate a student referral by providing written communication to our Gifted Identification Coordinator, Ms. Fisher, January 3rd-14th. If you have additional questions, you many contact Ms. Fisher at jafisher@henrico.k12.va.us.

Thanksgiving Holiday, Nov. 24-26

We hope your family has a wonderful time together.

Lunch Menu Update

A video is posted on the School Nutrition Services website (https://henricoschools.us/nutrition-services/) explaining supply chain challenges affecting school nutrition programs.  The video explains that the supply chain is currently affecting our ability to consistently serve items on the lunch menu. While there are always lunch choices available, we cannot always ensure that they will be what is listed on the menu.  If this is a concern, we recommend packing your child’s lunch. Thanks for your understanding.
